Doorstep Marathon / Half Marathon / 10K

SUNDERLAND STROLLERS CLAZEY’S DOORSTEP EVENTS – 1 DEC 2019

Sunderland Strollers are proud, once again, to present the Clazey’s Doorstep Events for 2019. Once again we’ll be providing a Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K run to try and get as many people participating as possible. The events are not races but social runs which will demonstrate the capacity of running to generate substantial funds and provide a great day. On completion of your event you’ll be presented with a t-shirt along with a breakfast sandwich plus tea/coffee. For those aspiring to be true athletes, the bar will be open.

There are changing/shower facilities at the Yacht Club, you can also leave bags etc in a secure environment.

Please meet at the Sunderland Yacht Club at 0750 for the Marathon start, 0945 for the Half Marathon start and 1045 for the 10K start.  Water will be provided around the route (marathon and half marathon only), if you want gels or anything else please either carry them or you can hand them to the marshals at the start and they will drop them ahead at the feed stations.

While the runs are designed to be open to all we rely heavily on our volunteer marshals and bike escorts and we wouldn’t want any of them freezing to death. So please do not enter the marathon unless you are confident of completing the distance in less than 4.5 hours; similarly do not enter the half marathon if you are likely to take more than 2.5 hours to complete.

The event is organised primarily to raise money for charity, this year we will be splitting the proceeds between 5 fabulous charities selected by our event founder Graeme Clazey:

Phoenix Cancer Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital,

Cancer Research UK

Macmillan Cancer Support

Matfen Trust

St Benedict’s Hospice

The event is also about getting people from North East Running Clubs and no Clubs to enjoy a Sunday morning run together while at the same time raising a load of cash for very worthy causes. Last year almost £4000, it would be awesome to match or even beat that total this year.

We’ve been phenomenally successful in our request for t-shirt sponsors this year; huge thanks to the following firms who have ensured that even more money will be available to the charities.

PGS Law

Empress Security

Barnets Barbers

Red Onion Kitchen

Oracle Financial Planning

Toni Deary – Pole & Fitness

Road From L

Lomax Training Services

Town Centre Citroen

Apex Interactive Solutions

Peter Dunn & Co

Franklin Steel

Lofthouse & Partners

Do please come and join us, over a beer we may even explain the origins of the event and why it means so much to the Club.
