Lakeland Legends.
The UTLD shows no sign of losing Stroller interest. Year upon year many return and new folk are lured into this addictive event.
On a sunny and warm Friday evening, seven smiling Strollers set off from Coniston: Stu, Pete, Lee, Dan, Kev and Colin and our only lady 100er, Louise. The heat continued for a while and then the first of the changing seasons occurred. All got a soaking! Still they smiled. By Saturday lunchtime, biblical storms hit hard. Stu was first home in 29:18 (slower than last year, get a wiggle on lad!), Pete next in 31:21:21 (first finish) and Louise our First Lady in 37:05:59, a PB! The others live to fight another day – each and every one of you toed the start line and you are all awesome. Some unfinished business no doubt.
A huge turnout of Strollers arrived at Dalemain for ‘just’ the 50. Again, we had a sunny start but Fusedale was not a particularly fun place to be as the hail hit quite early on. The kit check really is there for a reason as all discovered. Not only did we have the quantity of runners, we also had quality. Loads got the 100 qualifying time. Luke Kennedy was 22nd overall in a superb time of 9:27:32 with Ashleigh Bennett 9th lady in another class time of 10:26:06. Well done Luke and Ashleigh and well done to all who ran. We had some awesome times and some gutsy performances.
And where would the runners be without the marshals? These volunteers are pivotal to any event and, once again, the Stroller Disco was legendary. They all become superheroes, in every sense, for the evening and looked after the 100 runners brilliantly. This is no easy task – they have a long drive and a long shift, spending all of Friday evening, into the early hours, in a transformed barn in Wasdale. It’s a good job these superheroes powered through to take on the task with a smile.
Once again, a brilliant weekend for competitors, marshals and our brilliant supporters. You are all wonderful!
