Mud Glorious Mud
it seems that everyone racing at the weekend wallowed in mud. To be fair, it was cross-country and Hardmoors so little else should be expected.
Thornley Hall Farm provided a great venue for the penultimate cross-country race with the course being run in an opposite direction to last year. Our turn out was slightly down on last year so well done and thanks to all who rocked up to represent the club. The men’s counters were Chris Dwyer, Mark Anderson, Bill Bowman, Danny Dixon, Dale Wilkinson and Richard Baker. Ladies’ counters were Ashleigh Bennett, Jenna Maynard, Michelle O’Neill and Val Barella. Let’s hope that the race calendar, holidays and shift patterns are kind to folk so that we can field the strongest teams at the final fixture at Alnwick.
On Sunday, several Strollers headed out for a jaunt across the moors. Apparently the mud was feet deep in places and the wind threatened to blow folk into oblivion! Still, they battled through with a smile, on the whole, and all survived to tell the tale. Three took on the full distance – Luke Kennedy, Big fella Dan and FGT – and all did themselves proud. Several more ran the half and John Corcoran led them home. All reports say this year was particularly brutal so a mahoosive well done to you all!
Nearer home, Ivan Lowthia ran the short but muddy No-ego head torch run, finishing 18th overall. Well done!
