Pier to Pier News

We’d previously announced that our 2026 race would take place on 17 May 2026. However, many of you will have seen that the Sunderland City Runs (originally scheduled for 9/10 May 2026) have been moved to 16/17 May 2026.

We went hunting for a replacement date, of course needing the tides to be such that entrants didn’t have to swim the first and/or last mile!! We then discovered that our favoured date clashed with another iconic race, the South Shields Harriers Sand Dancer. Since the 2 races use The Leas it would have been impossible for both races to take place on the same day.

However, following an appeal we’re delighted to announce that South Shields have agreed to switch their race to a different date. We are indebted to them for being so supportive and urge you to consider entering the Sand Dancer when they confirm their revised date to support another Club organised race which, like Pier to Pier, ploughs all profits back into grass roots athletics.

So we can now make the announcement that the 2026 PGS Law Pier to Pier Race will take place on Sunday 19 April 2026 starting at 10am. We expect to open entries early in the New Year and will email again with those details in due course.
