The updated route notes for Start to CP3 can be found here. Apologies for the issues with getting these out to everyone but all of the gpx files for this years route are as follows:
Congratulations to all those who took part in the 2021 Urban Ultra, in particular our Male Winner, Patrick Oakley, our Female Winner, Michele Houghton and our winning relay teams, Anth Wilton/Dan Anderson; Lyne Valentine/Fiona Morrison; Malcolm Cox/Hasina Khanom. The Full Ultra Results can be found here, the relay results here.
Thanks to Allan & Rob for masterminding all of the arrangements and all those who volunteered either at start/finish or one of the checkpoints along the route.
See you all next year!
The Sunderland Strollers Urban Ultra 2021 will use the Northern Route following issues being identified with the Southern route, scroll down the page for links to route book and maps.
The Sunderland Strollers Urban Ultra 2021 will be a 37 mile race (or 2-person relay) which will start and finishes at the Ashbrooke Sports Club at 8AM on Saturday 6 November. There are 5 checkpoints at roughly equal distances of 6 miles apart where competitors can take top up water bottles. Limited food in the form of snacks etc will be available at each CP, runners with specific dietary requirements or those wanting particular nutrition should bring items in clearly marked bags for placement out at the CPs . Competitors are provided with a full route book although may conduct recce runs in advance, they are also provided with printed maps with the route marked, note that these are NOT waterproof.
There are cut-off times along the route, these are as follows (times based on 8am start):
CP 1 – Silksworth Complex (parkrun Start/Finish) – 6.8 miles – 1 hr 50 mins
CP 2 – Cox Green – 12.8 miles – 4 hrs 20 min
CP 3 – Hylton Castle – 19.1 miles – 6 hrs
CP 4 – Wellhouse Farm – 25.8 miles – 8 hrs
CP 5 – Roker Pier – 32.8 miles – 10 hrs
There will be trophies for 1/2/3 male and female competitors along with 1st Male, Female & Mixed teams in the relay.
There are shower and changing facilities available at the Ashbrooke Sports Club along with the opportunity to store clothing/equipment. However, access to changing will be limited before the start so runners must turn up ready to race. Relay runners will change over at CP 3, transport will be provided from Ashbrooke and will also recover all first leg runners back to Ashbrooke. We will also collect any runner who either withdraws or is timed out during the event.
NOW THE IMPORTANT STUFF
Despite the route rarely being far from civilisation we INSIST that all competitors carry all of the following kit throughout the event:
Waterproof top / 500ml emergency drink / emergency food / torch / whistle / hat (or buff) & gloves / mobile phone, fully charged with HQ numbers loaded / map pack & route book
Further we recommend you carry:
Waterproof Trousers / Cash / Spare long sleeve base layer
All competitors will be issued with a route book and map pack at registration but these will not be waterproofed.
There were quite a few pictures taken, many went onto the Strollers Facebook page which, if you’re not a Club Member, you won’t be able to see. However, I’ve asked the various photographers to copy them to the Urban Ultra Facebook Page so that everyone can share and enjoy.
RESULTS OF THE 2018 URBAN ULTRA & RELAY ULTRA ARE HERE (last time we used the Northern Course).
